Leeds Loves Shopping Returns

THE only shopping festival in the country is coming back for a sixth year in Leeds next month.

Leeds Loves Shopping is part of a suite of festivals aimed at celebrating the city’s diversity.

Shoppers will be able to take advantage of stores’ late-night openings, special offers and street entertainment.

“Retailers in the city have put together an exciting calendar of events, offers and promotions throughout the weekend."

New retail developments will also be showcased at the event.

The festival organisers hope to present Leeds as a major player in the retail industry with two major shopping centres currently under development.

Trinity Leeds and Eastgate Quarters will bring in over £1bn in investment for the city’s retail sector.

Boasting over 2m sq ft of shopping space, 971 outlets, and 3,000 jobs soon to be created, Leeds hopes to jump up three places to fourth in the country’s retail rankings.

Leeds Loves Shopping is being jointly organised by Marketing Leeds and Leeds City Council.

Deborah Green, chief executive of Marketing Leeds, believes the festival is a great way of supporting retail in the city.

“The festival will demonstrate the importance of retail to the Leeds economy,” she said.

“Leeds Loves Shopping is an ideal platform to highlight the city’s strengths in retail both nationally and internationally.”

Planned events for the festival include the Leeds Fashion Show and a farmers’ market.

Cath Follin, city centre manager and head of markets for Leeds City Council, believes the festival offers shoppers a unique experience.

She added: “Retailers in the city have put together an exciting calendar of events, offers and promotions throughout the weekend to demonstrate that Leeds is a premier retail destination.”

Leeds Loves Shopping will open with the Big Shopping Night Out from 5pm on Thursday 13 October and will run until Sunday 23 October.

The Leeds Loves Food festival attracted 40,000 visitors to venues across the city in July.
