THE WHITE ROSE Awards 2011 are urging Yorkshire restaurants to come forward and enter the food and drink competition.
The new category, ‘Yorkshire Restaurant of the Year’, has been included to highlight Yorkshire’s “reputation for great produce and fine but unpretentious dining”, says Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire.
Amongst the judging panel is Elaine Lemm, writer for British Food for the New York Times. She says, “I feel honoured to be part of these illustrious awards and already know that choosing the finalists will be tough as undoubtedly Yorkshire has some of the finest restaurants in the UK”
Judges also include the experienced Barbara Woroncow, who will chair the judging panel, Editor of the Yorkshire Post Peter Charlton, and former High Sheriff of West Yorkshire Roger Bowers. The awards, which attracts up to 1,000 guests, highlight Yorkshire’s tourism industry.
The sixteen categories include, Bed & Breakfast/Guest Accommodation of the Year; Business Tourism Award; Yorkshire Pub of the Year and Tourism Event of the Year. And for a selection of White Rose Awards winners there will be the opportunity to compete on a national scale as they go through to the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2012.
By the way Welcome to Yorkshire is now looking for a venue to stage this year’s White Rose Awards. The venue must have capacity of 1,000 for a black-tie dinner. Interested venues are urged to contact Events Manager Sara Hamizadeh for further details on 0113 322 3531.
