Sam's Chop House on South Parade is having a birthday bash on Wednesday 9 July. This is the restaurant that puts the classic back in the phrase 'classic British cuisine'. It's offering a juicy and gorgeous four course meal for a mere £25 per person with 20% of the price going to charity.
The night kicks off at 6.30pm with a complimentary champagne and canapé reception. This features live jazz until around 8.30pm. Then there's an auction in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. After this there will be a DJ till late.
Confidential loves Sams.
Our larger than life reviewer, Gordo, wrote about the place not so long ago that, 'the food is old English. By this, Gordo means pre World War Two, and not in a disparaging way. Our cooking was just as interesting as the French back in the day, but we lost our way through rationing in WW2.
We've been buggering about with all sorts of stuff ever since, with 'Modern British' the current buzzword. But the fact was that we had some great dishes on the cards pre-1940 and Sam's is just about the best place around at bringing them returning them to us. It's great stuff.'
