Boutique bar review

Melissa Wharton is impressed by a bar even more important than the discovery of potatoes

Boutique bar review

You had me at the Porn Star Martini. It’s a statement that speaks for itself really and speaks volumes about me. That was my initial thought upon entering the extra fresh and funky Boutique.

It was a discovery made many months ago and for me and one that is arguably as important as Sir Francis Drake’s spud mission. As an outstanding social hub, this small but perfectly formed venue is one that attracts me like a bug to light, again and again.

Tucked away just off Call Lane and a five minute walk from the train station, you’ll find more cocktails than you can shake a rather large stick at. Yes, cocktails and not your usual fare either. We’re talking cocktails with a twist and no energy drinks or alcopops in sight.

My personal favourite has to be the aforementioned Porn Star Martini. What is such a thing I hear you cry? Try a smooth concoction of passion fruit, spirits and the cherry on top; a shot of Champagne. Too fine squire.

Aside from the rather liberal and expansive drinks menu and it is all good. The dark and modern décor lends itself to a perfect pre-club venue. Few seats but who needs them when the house DJ serves up music as uplifting as this. Plus, it’s bouncing until late. We love late bar opening hours. More please.

It attracts a cracking cross section of people too and although uber-trendy, the vibe is friendly and relaxed. You won’t feel out of place if you’ve had to hit town straight from work or indeed are dressed to seriously impress. Not that I do the latter too much these days. I reserve that for meetings with the Tax Man and Bank Manager. Hasn’t done me much good so far.

If you want to make your pounds stretch further still, head down on a Thursday night. You’ll find the delectable Martinis half price from 5pm.

All-in-all, a superb treasure that will serve up lashings of tasty tipples, superb music and a buzz that is infectious.
