'BUERK! The Newsical’ is a new comedy musical from the minds of Tom Bailey and Greg Jameson.
Using TV newsreader Michael Beurk as the story’s hero, ‘Buerk! The Newsical’ is a fictional look back to the 1980s which reimagines the beginning of Buerk’s career at the BBC. Featuring characters based on iconic newsreaders including Moira Stuart and Ian McCaskill, the show is an irreverent look at what life could have been like for Buerk.
The show features original songs penned by Bailey and Jameson along with musicians Allan Stelmach and Mark Kingston.
‘Buerk! The Newsical’ transports us back to the 80s, a time of hope and innocence when beer was cheap, red braces were in and ska was all the rage. Buerk (Greg Jameson) starts his career at BBC News, falls in love with Moira Stuart (Helen McDonald) and becomes the nation's most beloved newsreader.
But it isn't all jollity and endless refills of Martini Rosso at News Towers. Buerk's new friend Ian McCaskill (Ollie Burton) appears to be a feckless weather boob, but he has a secret life. What evil plan will he conjure up to get Buerk out of the picture so that he can swoop on Moira?
Will Buerk and Moira find happiness and tie the knot? Will McCaskill use the power of Mugabe to control the weather? And what has Bob Geldof got to do with it all? Find out in ‘Buerk! The Newsical’.
