The Grand And Heritage Open Days

LEEDS Grand Theatre opens its doors to the public on Sunday with an action packed programme supporting Heritage Open Days  across the UK. 

As well as the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the spectacular Victorian theatre, the Grand’s resident companies Opera North and Northern Ballet will be providing workshops, performances and a host of other activities for the whole family to enjoy. 

There’ll be surprise performances, backstage tours, talks from the professionals, sneak peeks at sets and costume, competitions and quizzes. 

The Theatre is open to all from 10.30am until 4pm with last admission at 3.30.  Entry is free. 

Our friends at the Grand have provided us with a timetable of events:  

10.45 – 11.15am

West Yorkshire Archives Service Handling Workshop - Emerald Grand Hall

11am-12pm

Fun with Gilbert and Sullivan in Opera North’ family workshop in Howard Assembly Room (HAR)

11.30 – 12pm

Northern Ballet Talk ‘From Story to Stage’ in Emerald Grand Hall

12 - 1pm

Sing-a-long with members of LAOS – The Musical Theatre Company - Main Studio Backstage Level 1

12.15 -1

Northern Ballet Open Workshop - HAR

1.15 – 3.30

Open auditions for LAOS Chorus in Arnold Ziff Room, Upper Circle

1.30 – 2.15

Northern Ballet Workshop for the over 55s – HAR

2.15 – 2.45

West Yorkshire Archives Service Handling Workshop – Emerald Grand Hall

2.30 – 3.30

Fun with Gilbert and Sullivan in Opera North’s family workshop – HAR

2 – 3pm Opera Up Close – Performance in surprising places

Head to the main stairs for a special treat from Opera North.

Explore Backstage

Follow the trail from the prompt corner backstage level 3 up to the paint frame and fly floor. 

Opera North’s Madama Butterfly

See the set from Opera North’s production on stage and poke your head into dressing room 7 for a sneak peek at one of the costumes 

Lorry Lift Rides – 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm

Discover how scenery is brought into The Grand by taking a ride on the lorry lift.

Archives Display

Explore the Grand’s story through photographs, pictures and programmes. On display all day courtesy of West Yorkshire Archives Service; handling workshops at 10.45am and 2.15pm.

Family Fun Craft Activities

Drop in to find out more about the Grand’s unique Victorian design feature and have a go at creating your own stained glass windows or tile patterns.

Grand Fete

Roll up, roll up! Prizes to be won! Visit the Grand Fete to play games, enter competitions and find out more about upcoming performances.

Opera North Captured on Camera

Add your face to a fun film, play games and win prizes

Refreshments

Enjoy a drink or snack in our bars or backstage in the Green Room where the stars dine!
